Meet the Cluster Community: Anna Apostolidou

1. Why are you studying inequality?

As a management student, I am interested in the practical implications of inequality in the workplace - be it between immigrants and natives, women and men, old and young employees. Understanding these inequalities is the precondition to overcoming them.

2. What are you working on?

The overarching theme of my research is the integration of migrant employees in the workplace. I am currently working on the project “Integration at Work”, where we explore the experiences of apprentices with and without migration background throughout various phases of their apprenticeship.

3. Recent highlight?

I received the Best Paper Award for Junior Researchers at the fall workshop 2021 of the Wissenschaftliche Kommission Personal. It was for my first paper, which investigated the effect of migrant employees on team productivity in blue-collar teams.

4. Dream research project?

A 10-year-plus study collecting yearly data, documenting the experiences of newcomer migrant and refugee employees as they adjust in their working environment (or fail to do so).

Anna Apostolidou is a PhD candidate at the Cluster of Excellence "The Politics of Inequality" at the University of Konstanz. She is a researcher in the cluster project "Integration at Work". Her research interests include language and cultural diversity, migrant integration, and organizational failures in public administration.
