16-year-old Kalle wanders through a wasteland in Berlin. He regrets a momentous act that will change his life. “I don’t know how it started, the whole story with me”.

Kalle at ten years old. Alone in the neighborhood at night. First love. Tests of courage on the city’s district heating pipes. Friendships and weddings. Trial, conviction, jail. The world outside keeps on turning. Grandpa reminisces about the GDR. Grandma conquers addiction. Mom sends rockets into the night for his 18^th birthday. The policewoman watches over her precinct. After prison, Kalle’s breathless odyssey back to himself begins. 

KALLE KOSMONAUT impressively portrays the life of young Kalle over 10 years and shows how social inequality can determine the course of a person’s life. A radically honest and similarly poetic reflection on love, family, fate, and guilt – carried by the hope that in the end, a better life is possible.

Together with the Zebra-Kino Konstanz, we cordially invite you to Film & Talk. Our guests are director Tine Kugler, who accompanied Kalle for more than 10 years, sociologist Katja Pomianowicz, whose research focuses on the inheritance of inequality, and social worker Silvio Markewitz, who is frequently confronted with children and teenagers in difficult situations in his work at the Youth Welfare Office Bodenseekreis. Following the screening, they will discuss the effects of social inequality, such as attributions, participation, and educational opportunities; in relation to the work with Kalle, but also regarding the realities here at Lake Constance.

Afterwards, all guests are invited to a small reception to speak personally to the protagonists of the talk.
