Welcome to the In_equality Conference 2024, where we aim to build on the success of our previous conference in 2022 at the stunning Lake Constance. As an international and interdisciplinary gathering of researchers, we are excited to meet new speakers and participants and to reconnect with familiar faces to foster insightful discussions.

Concerns about inequality continue to dominate academic and public debates in the face of significant societal changes, such as rapid technological change, globalisation, climate change, the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic, and the consequences of the war in Ukraine. At this conference, we are particularly interested in exploring the political causes and consequences of inequality across different dimensions and empirical domains. The invited contributions address these and related questions from all areas of inequality research.

Our three-day program will feature 27 interdisciplinary panels covering various topics from gender, ethnicity, wealth, and educational inequality to language, questions concerning the welfare state, debt, and austerity and climate change. The “Satellite Programme I-V” will supplement the scientific contributions with roundtables on knowledge transfer, open science or global south, or topic related to special issues of our cooperating partner institutions.
