Employees’ perceptions of co-workers’ internal promotion penalties: the role of gender, parenthood and part-time.

Much research has focused on penalties by gender, parenthood and part-time work for hiring processes or wages, but their role for promotions is less clear.

Based on survey experimental data collected in a cluster project, Ole Brüggemann studied the promotion chances that employees in Germany see for their co-workers. The findings point towards the existence of perceived promotion penalties with regard to gender, motherhood and part-time work.
