Designing virtual worlds for experiential learning and presentation

What if the next online presentation took place in a laboratory environment? Showing data interactively? Visiting a virtual world together from different locations? In cooperation between the Cluster of Excellence Collective Behaviour and the Merz Akademie, researchers and design students are creating interactive worlds with integrated live video streams and avatars in VR.

WHAT IS THE PROJECT ABOUT?
- About virtual worlds for experiential learning and presentation
- About designing interactive content and avatars for live events and presentations in VR
- About linking physical and virtual spaces to one shared “hybrid“ place

WHAT EXACTLY?

In the project, students

  • get an insight into the field of VR/AR -historically and practically
  • get in touch with scientists and their research at the Cluster of Excellence Collective Behaviour (CASCB)
  • learn how to design experiential (multi-media) spaces

and researchers get

  • a new view on their research data
  • inspiration while discussiong their research with design students.

THIS INCLUDES
- how to conceptualize and design the virtual world itself
- how to integrate media content (e.g., live videos, chats, texts, photos, sound) and avatars into the virtual world
- how to represent the virtual world in physical space.
