The Centre for the Advanced Study of Collective Behaviour will create a global hotspot for the integrated study of collective behaviour across a wide range of species and scales of organisation. With English as the working language, it will be a global hub for scientists seeking to create a synergistic, interdisciplinary environment for the study of collective behavior. Establishing collective behaviour as an integrative field, the Centre will bring together international researchers from biology, computer science, social psychology, physics, and behavioural economics to work closely on addressing common questions across species boundaries.

The University of Konstanz has been successful in the German Excellence Initiative and Excellence Strategy since 2007.

The Department of Computer and Information Science in the faculty of Sciences, subject to the approval of the Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts Baden-Württemberg and the University Council, seeks to fill a

Tenure Track Professorship of Machine Learning effective 1 October 2020. The position is funded in the context of the joint programme for the promotion of early career researchers by the German federal and state-governments.

The professorship serves to establish a working group focusing on methods and theoretical principles of machine learning. Successful applicants are internationally recognized in at least one current field of research in this field and are open to interdisciplinary questions. The professorship is part of the cluster of excellence "Centre for the Advanced Study of Collective Behaviour" at the Department of Computer and Information Science. In addition, candidates should connect to the main research area of the department, "Visualization and Analysis of Complex Data and Models". It is expected that there will be adequate participation in teaching compulsory undergraduate courses in our degree programmes in German and English.

Recruitment requirements are: a university degree in computer science or a closely related subject, a doctoral degree as well as internationally outstanding scientific achievements and proven teaching experience.
