High-performance computing (HPC) is a key technology in today's research. You can think of it as having a supercomputer that solves really tough problems much faster and more efficiently than any normal computer. With the ever-expanding amounts of data and increasingly intricate model systems that scientists have been facing in recent years, HPC has become an essential tool to help solve big problems, from understanding climate change and designing new medicines to training large neural networks for AI.
We would like to invite interested students and researchers to the introductory course "bwHPC: Introduction to High-Performance Computing" in October (registration via Zeus for day 1 and day 2). This introductory course (in English) is aimed at all current and future users of the bwHPC clusters (bwUniCluster 2.0, bwForCluster) and is divided into two consecutive classroom sessions, which can also be attended separately. After an introduction to the world of HPC, we will introduce the resources that are available to members of the University of Konstanz and how to access them. Furthermore, the fundamentals of how to use such compute clusters will be taught, including hands-on exercises.
