Organization

The Collective Behaviour Field Course is supported by the Cluster of Excellence Centre for the Advanced Study of Collective Behaviour (CASCB) at the University of Konstanz. The main leads are Dr Vlad Demartsev and Dr Gabriella Gall, two postdoctoral fellows at the CASCB. We are being joined by Dr Kyle Finn (University of Pretoria) and Chanel Rampartab (University of Witwatersrand).

Participation in the course is free and accommodation and meals are covered. Participants will be granted a small stipend towards covering the transportation costs to and from Upington. All students from South African Universities are eligible to apply.

The field station is remotely located and the options for getting in and out are very limited. Transport to and from the field site will be arranged from Upington (South Africa) on the first and the last days of the course. The participants will stay on site for the whole duration. Late arrivals or early departures will have to be self-arranged by the participants and are in general not advisable.

The accommodation conditions on site are basic but comfortable. Participants will share double occupancy rooms. The kitchen area and washrooms are shared with the rest of the course. The internet and cellular connectivity on site are very limited. Participants should make sure to check in advance how well the field site area is covered by their cellular provider.
