Small Grants Funding

The Cluster wants to establish the best conditions for research projects of entire teams as well as for individual researchers. Therefore, (a) the initiation and preparation of new, larger, research projects or (b) small, new projects that do not require extensive funding by providing Seed/Small Grants of up to 10,000 euros can be funded when they relate and contribute to the research agenda of the Cluster.

What is funded?
Available funding is an allowance to cover the total costs of the planned event(s), up to a maximum of 10,000 Euros. Applications may include funding requests for:

  • Short-term salaries for student assistants or research assistants
  • Workshops (for example, team workshops)
  • Data acquisition, such as data access fees or the purchase of data sets
  • Costs for experiments or incentives
  • Travel costs (e.g. for archival research, fieldwork, data access, and data collection)

Other research-related expenses are permitted and will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Please note: The Cluster has a separate funding line for bigger workshops and conferences that are communicating project results.).

Who can apply?
All Principal Investigators of the Cluster “The Politics of Inequality” are eligible.

How to apply
To apply, please submit the following documents:

  • Application form
  • Small Grants Project Proposal with a detailed description of the planned work including a description of the connection to the Cluster’s programme, and a budget draft. The application form and budget plan form are provided with the call.

Please submit your application as a PDF file via the link on the web portal consisting of the application with max. 3 pages and the statement on the requested sum(s), including justification on the usage of the funds.

Applications are accepted at any time throughout the year. The Executive Board will assess all applications and make a selection decision on a rolling basis.

The University of Konstanz is one of eleven Universities of Excellence in Germany. Since 2007 it has been successful in the German Excellence Initiative and its follow-up programme, the Excellence Strategy. The Cluster “The Politics of Inequality” includes researchers from political science, sociology, economics, linguistics, psychology, law, and education studies. They study how people perceive these inequalities, how they lead to collective mobilization, and how political actors respond to them.

This Call is funded by the German Research Foundation (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft - DFG) under the Excellence Strategy of the German federal and state governments – EXC-2035/1 – 390681379 - and is in accordance with the Bylaws for the Cluster of Excellence “The Politics of Inequality: Perceptions, Participation and Policies” of the University of Konstanz.
